About Us
The Legacy Chase is the flagship equestrian event at Shawan Downs, bringing together elite horses and gifted riders to showcase the graceful intensity of steeplechase racing for the Maryland community.
We provide food vendors, retail vendors, live music, and other experiences to encourage those unfamiliar with the sport to bring their families and friends to a truly pastoral experience.
Historically, proceeds from The Legacy Chase benefit the Land Preservation Trust, dedicated to preserving Baltimore County agricultural land from further development.
Racing for a Cause
For twenty-five years, proceeds from The Legacy Chase have supported the Land Preservation Trust — protecting Baltimore County's agricultural land and the Greenspring and Worthington Valleys from development. Your day at the races keeps these landscapes wild.
